The Academy of Art University Continues to Impress at NYFW

On September 9, 2017 the Academy of Art University held their 21st runway showcase for New York Fashion Week at the Skylight Clarkson Square in New York City. 10 recent BFA and MFA graduates debuted their latest designs in front of many fashion icons including Ms. J Alexander from America’s Next Top Model.

The Academy of Art is famous for producing some incredibly talented fashion designers. Since its founding in 1929, they’ve grown to accommodate more than 12,000 students at a time with more than 25 degrees offered. According to their website, this school is the largest privately-owned art and design school in the United States.

With alumni from this university like Kara Liricks, it’s no surprise that the annual fashion shows from the Academy of Art draw widespread attention. The students involved were noticeably creative this year. Hailun Zhou from the Qing Dao, China, created one of the most widely praised dresses of the night with vinyl and PVC.

Joanna Jadallah also turned heads with her Palestinian ancestors-inspired wool and leather design. Finally, Cana Klebanoff took his interest in samurai and castle architecture to create some truly unique pieces.

The annual fashion show by the Academy of Art University is always a highly anticipated event. Luckily for fans of fashion, this university puts on a number of great events throughout the year. In December of 2017, the Academy of Art will showcase the 12 Days of Academy of Art Works, in which a number of the best fashion designs of the year will be displayed.

It was another successful year at the New York Fashion Show this year for the Academy of Art University. This school continues to produce some incredibly talented young designers with true potential to make an impact in the near future. Stay tuned to hear about all the new designs being showcased next year!
